This week with TTR: Having fun anyway!

Hi friends,

This has been a strange Autumn, isn't it? Instead of clear blue skies and crisp cold air, it has been mostly cloudy and warm, disrupting our plans a bit.

But it didn't matter all, since everyone kept smiling and having fun anyway. This community is truly a gift, thanks to each of you!

Two runs this week: a fun local romp in the Ome area and a beautiful trip deep into Saitama. Hope to see you there!

Keep following our newsletter and our Facebook page for more announcements and updates.

Bring at least 1 liter of water (there are vending machines along the way).
The start and finish stations are separate, so please carry all your luggage with you.
If you wish, you can use a nearby hot spring after the finish.
To avoid startling hikers on the course, do not run straight through, but stop to greet and pass them.

StartSeibu Chichibu Station station - Saturday the 16th from 8.50
EndSeibu Chichibu Station station - ~13.00
UPPER INTERMEDIATE run 17 km +1300m ~4h

Maximum of 8 runners
** You may be required to contribute taxi money of up to 3,000 JPY for the day
*** We may do 17K or 13K. The decision will be made on the day depending on the speed and fitness of the team.

We will meet at Seibu Chichibu Station and take one or two taxis from there to the start. This is a beautiful course with huge trees, waterfalls, one of Kanto's most famous mountain shrines, and (we expect) some beautiful autumn colors on the peak. The climb itself is 1,000 meters to 1,300 meters, depending on the final course.

Regardless of the event photo it will likely be quite cold on the ridge, so bring warm weather gear such as gloves, hat, fleece, shell jacket, neck warmer, etc. There are restaurants and drink machines at the shrine on the main ridge, and restrooms.

Other attractions are a cave and incredible river scenery on the upper Arakawa River!

The start and finish will be Seibu-Chichi Station where there are lockers, restaurants and onsen.

StartTorisawa Station station - Sunday the 24th from 9.20
EndSaruhashi Station station - ~13.50
INTERMEDIATE run 16 km +1200m ~4.5h

Max 20 runners. Ogi and Momokura are the two large mountains between Jimba and Daibosatsu, and they are an interesting day run in themselves. A bit more vertical than Takao-Jimba, with superb views of Mt. Fuji, should the weather cooperate. This is an excellent Autumn run. Hopefully the maples are still red (no guarantees)

Start is at Torisawa Station, but finish is the next station down the line, Saruhashi. So pack everything you need.

There are no services, so bring lunch and enough water to finish. Most runners beyond elementary level are OK, though the two climbs are hard work (cumulative elevation gain is about 1,100-1,200m) and not suitable for beginning runners. Total distance is 15-16K or so, but it may feel a bit longer due to the two climbs.

Honestly the finish is a bit sad. There is a 7/11, but no onsen or other sites.....unless you like old abandoned buildings. There are onsen and restaurant options some stations down the line in Fujino.
