This week with TTR: From the mountains to the sea!

Hi friends,

While the cold season may keep us away from the tallest moutains, it leads us toward the coast for sunny runs with glorious views!

And we have just added two beautiful events in this spirit, bringing us to Oiso and Nokogiri in the new year, plus another that will take us to Miyagase lake this weekend. Hope you'll join us!

Let's enjoy steep climbs and mountain views! We will start in Isehara Station station at 09:00 and end in Isehara Station station around 14.45. This Intermediate course is 17km / 24km / 27kmkm long, with an elevation gain of 1000+ m, and is open to 40 participants.

(Options include 17K, 24K, or 27K)

Meet us at Isehara station at 8:55.Annual New Year's run from Isehara Station to the peak of Oyama. Bust a lung as buses and cable cars wiz past you until the top of the ropeway, from where a steep climb takes you to the beautiful (but likely cold) summit. Warm up with lunch at the top of the ropeway.Feel free to return to the station by bus, though a few hardcore idiots usually run all the way back down the road (an extra 9K) with or without bags of mikan in their running packs. It's about 13K to the summit in total, 4K back down to the ropeway (and return bus) or a solid 24K for the entire grind back to Isehara.There are lockers at Isehara for storing warm gear.

Safety Note (Important!): We have had a few instances of runners becoming dangerously cold on the summit of Oyama. It will likely be below zero and you will be wet and sweaty from the long approach run. You MUST bring the following gear:

Shell jacket or wind breaker
Fleece or other warm jacket
Gloves
Tights (NOT SHORTS)
Warm hat
Optional: Neck Warmer

Lastly, some runners may want to finish at Tsurumaki Onsen (27K). We can advise on the day.

(For those runners who do NOT want to start on the road at Isehara, NO PROBLEM! Just take the bus to the cable car and meet us at the cable car bus station. You will save about 8K of road).

Note that Team Cowboy does less road and more trail, finishing at an onsen!

Easy New Year's run with a Polar Bear swimming option for those who dare.

Very easy trail run with some great sites and trails, including a long beach, super views of Mt. Fuji (if the weather cooperates), and some ancient tombs. The perfect course for new trail runners in Kanagawa or Tokyo.

There are some lockers at Oiso Station for leaving a change of clothes. We will start and finish here. If you choose the Polar Bear option you can soon change into dry clothes since the station is near the beach.

For those who do not want to test the water, no problem! Come and enjoy the run!

Nokogiri Yama is one of the most interesting tourist areas near Tokyo. Ocean views, Daibutsu (the largest stone figure of Buddha in Japan), and low mountains for trail running fun.

The course is open to any fit runner who has run a TTR event over 10K. Other runners please ask. The course is not that difficult really by TTR standards, and will likely be about 10K distances but the elevation gain is more than 600m because we will start going up from almost the sea level.

You can come to Hamakanaya station by train, or ferry from Kurihama port, though the boat ride is more interesting! In case of train, there is a train starting at 8:55 am from Tokyo station to Kisarazu (木更津) then change trains at Kisarazu to Hamakanaya station. (1,980 yen / one way).

You can also take a ferry starting at 9:25 from Kurihama Port and arriving at Kanaya Port at 10:05. (800-900 yen / one way)

Don't forget to bring 700 yen to enter NIHON-JI (temple) and if interested , you can finish your run with a local Onsen and some local sashimi or sushi.

** Be aware that 2K of the trail at the beginning is very rough and officially "closed". This is from typhoon damage a few years ago. It is not really dangerous, but requires a lot of scrambling over dead trees. It's possible to get scratched or cut. Consider wearing gloves for extra protection. This section is pretty wild.

10:15に浜金谷駅に集まってください。行き方のおすすめは久里浜港(京急久里浜駅or JR久里浜駅から2km) 9:25 発のフェリーに乗れば、10:05に金谷港に到着します。金谷港から浜金谷駅までは徒歩で5〜10分です。フェリーは片道800-900円です。天気によってはフェリー欠航の可能性もあるので、事前確認をお願いします。

コースは約10km、獲得標高600mの初中級レベルです。沢沿いのトレイルを通り尾根まで登ります。尾根からは天気が良ければ富士山や太平洋が一望できます。途中日本寺に寄り、石大仏や地獄のぞきを見て楽しみましょう。拝観料700円かかるので小銭の準備をお願いします。そのほか、石切場跡も通るので、見所満載のコースです。

街まで下ったら、希望者は温泉や海鮮料理を楽しんでから帰宅しましょう!

In keeping with our ongoing tradition of promoting social events beyond the trails and in clean attire, TTR invites members to a UK-themed potluck party in an exclusive space in Tokyo. Although fancy dress is not required, don’t let that stop you from wearing a hat, scarf, jacket, etc., and getting into the spirit of the event. Please RSVP as soon as possible by clicking “Going” as usual.

✅What to Bring: Attendees can bring food, drinks, snacks, costumes, and more. The venue is equipped with a kitchen, TV, and a large couch. Easy UK items like bottles of beer, Double Decker bars, or crisps (English potato chips) are also welcome! Bring whatever you have time to pick up that has a British theme.
✅Note: This is a potluck event. Attendees should bring meals or drinks to share. TTR will also prepare traditional British dishes, with the menu to be announced in the coming weeks.
If attendance exceeds 20 people, TTR may seek a larger venue in Tokyo.
