This week with TTR: Running the classics!

Hi friends,

They say that history doesn't repeat, but it rhymes.

That definitely rings true this weekend, with two big classics like the Hakone Gairin and the Hanno Firefly run.

Both will be their own experiences, with their unique mix of trail conditions and crews. Both will also bring back sweet memories of past runs and past friends.

Thank you all for writing these histories with us!

Keep following our newsletter and our Facebook page for more announcements and updates.

DETAILS MIGHT CHANGE BASED ON WEATHER

Let's have one long epic run 😄

We will tackle the famous Hakone Gairin route, looping around Hakone's caldera for 49 km, with 2700 meters of elevation, across over 12 hours.

Needless to say, this will be a much looser plan than usual.

We will meet at Hakone Yumoto station with the first train (arriving at 7:34 from Odawara) and simply do our best to reach the end, possibly together.

We want to avoid running in the dark if possible, so we'll leave as soon possible (please have your food, luggage and locker-coin needs sorted before arriving) and we'll stop at nightfall (but bring a headlamp just in case)

This event is reserved to advanced runners with familiarity with night runs and 50k+ routes.

LEVEL
Advanced, do not join unless familiar with marathon-legth runs and the required materials (clothes, foodstuff, etc)
We will not accommodate for slow paces (but probably we won't be that fast ourselves 😅)

Suitable for fit trail running beginners or above. Sunset river and forest run, with a good number of fireflies. Near Hanno Station so convenient to get to and from Tokyo. You need to bring a headlamp or flashlight, or I can provide one to you for a 500 JPY rental cost (let me know in advance). Total run of about 10K or slightly more, with a chance to cool down in a beautiful river should you choose to do so.

There are lockers at Hanno Station for storing a change of clothes, should it be raining. Goal is to be back in Tokyo by about 9:30 pm
